As we approach the Human Design New Year I’ve been deeply contemplating what this new cycle will bring and how I want to navigate it. Each year, I choose a word to guide my focus, and this year, that word is Simplify. It’s a call to evaluate everything in my life and business, asking: What truly serves me? What can I let go of? What will create more space for what matters most?
This intention and my ongoing hashtag from last year, #RadicalSelfTrust, will guide my choices in 2025. As part of this process, I’ve been reflecting on my practices, including the time I’ve dedicated to tracking and writing about the Human Design transits.
Evaluating What Matters
As I sat with whether or not to continue working with the transits, it didn’t take long for me to find clarity. The answer was an emphatic yes. This practice has become so meaningful to me that I couldn’t imagine letting it go.
I intend to complete at least one full cycle of the Human Design mandala, following the Sun’s transit through each Gate and the corresponding Earth Gate (always defined in opposition to the Sun). This practice has been transformative, helping me deepen my understanding of the Gates, my design, and the way external energies influence us all.
In the spirit of simplifying and sharing what’s most impactful, I decided to write this blog post to explain what I’ve been getting out of this process and offer a simple guide for how you can explore the transits for yourself.
Why Work with the Transits?
Observing the Human Design transits is like tuning into the cosmic weather. Just as the weather outside affects our daily plans and moods, the energetic weather created by the planets shapes the themes and influences we experience.
In Human Design, transits can be understood in two main categories:
1. Long-Term Transits: These are created by the slower-moving generational planets (like Pluto, Neptune, and Uranus) and influence collective themes over months or even years.
2. Short-Term Transits: These come from the faster-moving personal planets (like the Sun, Mercury, Venus, and Mars) and shift daily or weekly, reflecting more immediate themes.
Detachment, Awareness, and Honoring Your Truth
Before diving deeper into the benefits of working with transits, it’s important to address a common misconception: Doesn’t focusing on the transits just add more mental noise? Human Design itself warns us about navigating too much from the mind, which can lead to overthinking and overanalyzing, especially for those with an undefined or open Head and Ajna center. So, isn’t contemplating the transits just another way to add more questions and distractions?
In my experience, the answer is no. Far from being a source of mental overwhelm, observing the Human Design transits has been a practice of awareness and detachment. By noticing the themes of the current transit cycle and what Ra Uru Hu refers to as the program, I’ve found that this practice actually helps me step back from the pull of external conditioning.
Rather than getting caught up in the narrative of what the transits might be drawing me toward, I use this awareness to remain grounded in my strategy and authority. Contemplating the energies at play creates a space for reflection—a moment to pause, observe, and choose whether or not to engage.
When approached with detachment, working with the transits becomes a tool for deconditioning. It’s not about reacting to the energy or letting it dictate your actions. Instead, it’s about recognizing how the cosmic “weather” influences the collective and using that knowledge to stay centered in your own truth.
Focusing on the Sun and Earth
The Sun’s transit highlights the primary energy of the day, illuminating themes that are likely to surface in your thoughts, emotions, and experiences. Meanwhile, the Earth’s Gate provides a grounding counterbalance, offering stability and perspective. Together, the Sun and Earth create a dynamic pair that invites powerful opportunities for reflection and growth.
(The Earth’s Gate is always defined in opposition to the Sun’s Gate because the Sun’s placement determines the Earth’s position—a fascinating alignment that mirrors balance in the Human Design system.)
By primarily focusing on just these two transits, I’ve been able to simplify my practice while gaining profound insights into the interplay of energies in my life. This practice also naturally extends to observing how these energies impact others, helping me build greater empathy and understanding for the people around me.
What I’ve Gained from This Practice
Tracking the Sun and Earth’s transits has been more than just a study of cosmic patterns—it’s been a deeply personal journey. This practice has helped me:
• Deepen My Knowledge of the Gates: Spending time with each Sun and Earth Gate allows me to explore their themes in greater detail. This not only enhances my understanding of the Human Design system but also brings clarity to my own experiences and relationships.
• Strengthen My Self-Awareness: By noticing how the daily energies resonate in my life, I’ve become more attuned to where external influences are affecting me and where I am truly aligned with my authentic self.
• Embrace Simplicity: While there are many transits to consider, focusing on just the Sun and Earth has kept this practice manageable and sustainable. It’s a great way to engage with the system without feeling overwhelmed. Of course, the long-term transits are just as important and worth contemplating so i don’t entirely ignore them.
A Practical Guide to Exploring Transits
If you’re curious about working with the transits yourself, here’s a simple guide to get started:
1. Track the Sun and Earth Transits: Begin by observing the Sun and Earth Gates, which change approximately every six days. Reflect on how the Sun’s Gate illuminates the day’s themes and how the Earth’s Gate offers grounding energy. You can find the daily transits on my website.
2. Notice Patterns and Activations: Pay attention to how the themes of the transits resonate with your thoughts, emotions, and experiences. If the day’s Gates activate “hanging” Gates in your chart, notice how this temporary energy influences you.
3. Explore Supporting Resources:
• Denise Mathew’s YouTube channel and her book, The Mandala of Life: 384 Lines to Self Discovery with Human Design. Denise’s approachable and deeply resonant insights make her work a fantastic starting point for understanding the Gates and their themes.
• Chetan Parkyn’s YouTube channel, Evolutionary Human Design: With over 30 years of experience in Human Design, Chetan’s evolutionary perspective offers a wealth of wisdom for navigating the energies. His teachings are clear, practical, and transformative.
• Richard Rudd’s Gene Keys contemplations: Through his Pulse email series, Richard offers poetic and meditative audio contemplations for each Gene Key as the transits shift. His approach brings depth and a profound sense of connection to the energies.
• Explore other voices in the Human Design community: Many other teachers bring unique and valuable perspectives, and resources including Richard Beaumont, Karen Curry Parker, Maggie Ostara, and others. Human Design teaches us that we all have our fractals, so look around, explore different voices, and find the ones that resonate most with you.
4. Visit My Blog as a Resource: My blog is another tool you can use to begin your practice. I currently post with each change of the Sun/Earth Transit. I use the process I am sharing here. You can start by simply looking at the Gates themselves or go deeper by reflecting on the energy of the Lines each day. Whether you prefer a broad overview or an in-depth exploration, there’s no right or wrong way to engage with the transits.
5. Journaling and Contemplation: Writing about the transits is one of the most transformative aspects of this practice. After gathering insights from the Gates, Lines, and supporting resources, reflect on how the energies have shown up in your life. Journaling creates a space for awareness, helping you notice patterns and deepen your connection to the unfolding themes.
Simplify and Trust
As I continue this practice into 2025, I’m reminded of simplifying without losing what truly matters. By primarily focusing on the Sun and Earth transits, I’ve found a way to stay connected to the rhythms of life without overcomplicating my process.
When we talk about the transits, we’re attempting to translate energetic experiences into human language—a process that is inherently limiting. As you explore these resources, trust your intuition and allow yourself to feel what resonates most deeply with you.
If you’re looking for a contemplative tool to deepen your self-awareness, I encourage you to join me in tracking the transits. Start small. Observe how the Sun and Earth Gates align with your experiences. Write about what you notice. Over time, this practice may become a grounding and transformative part of your own journey, as it has for mine.
Are you ready to walk through the wheel of the mandala together in 2025, with simplicity and radical self-trust as our guides? This isn’t about pressure; it’s about awareness.
I’d love to hear about your experiences with this practice. Feel free to share your reflections as you explore the energies of the Human Design transits.
